The District of letters

We are in the heart of Madrid, in the emblematic "Barrio de las Letras", an area that allows easy access on foot to the wide range of leisure and culture proposed by the city of Madrid.
Our district owes its name to the great literary activity throughout the 16th and 17TH centuries. Through these streets set his residence of some of the most prominent writers of the Spanish golden century, such as Miguel de Cervantes, Quevedo, Góngora and Lope de Vega.

Although most of the buildings that remain were built at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, from the time of the golden age have survived the House-Museum of Lope de Vega, where lived the writer between 1610 and 1635 (historic-artistic monument since 1935 and open to the public as a House Museum); the Convent of San Ildefonso de las Trinitarias Descalzas, where he was buried Cervantes; and the Church of san Sebastian.

On September 22, 2008 the district was declared a priority residential Area by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid, figure through which the traffic is restricted except to residents, transport public, services and emergency in much of its streets. Also expanded some pedestrian areas, including gardens and Cervantes.

It is a cozy neighborhood with large influx of national and international tourism which can enjoy both famous streets and narrow and picturesque streets of the center of Madrid. All of them are always equipped with a great atmosphere with lots of shops, restaurants and terraces in which make a stop. In addition, the first Saturday of every month is celebrated "Market of the frogs" in which commercial establishments will draw out their commercial offer and its most representative products.
